Artist Statement
After raising two children, I returned to finish my Fine Arts Degree at UMass Amherst. I now maintain a studio at the Lichtenstein Center for the Arts located in Pittsfield, MA.
For the past 46 years, I have lived in Lenox, MA. While residing in the Berkshires, I have been an active member of the Berkshire Art Association, co-chaired the Lenox Cultural Council, substitute taught at Lenox High School and conducted workshops at Hancock Shaker Village and Devonshire Estates.
My earlier work consisted of large charcoal figurative drawings. Some of images represented a collection of memories and experiences very dear to my heart. Exploring these images could be exciting at times but also emotionally draining.
Several years ago, personal circumstances altered my way of painting and I found comfort and inspiration in landscapes. A deep love of nature and the added benefit of living in the Berkshires helped fuel this new endeavor.
I try to paint every day. When the weather cooperates, I spend time outdoors observing and drawing always looking for a subject with strong compositional elements. Once in the studio, studies and resources will transform again and again and hopefully produce a collection of paintings.
My recent work reflects my growing concern with global warming. Rising waters and melting glaciers are the new reality. I hope to continue expressing these concerns through my paintings.
